The Delta State Government has taken decisive action by dissolving the entire management structure of their Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Delta Queens. The announcement was made through a statement issued by the State Sports Commission’s Director of Public Relations, Frank Okonma.
According to Okonma, this move is a direct response to the club’s disappointing performance in the recently concluded 2024/25 NWFL campaign. The statement emphasized that the dissolution is “necessary to reposition the club for greater efficiency, professionalism, and competitiveness.”
Delta Queens endured a difficult season, finishing in sixth position in Group B with a meager 14 points. Their record reflected this struggle, with only four wins, two draws, and eight defeats in their 14 league matches. This underwhelming performance is a far cry from the standards expected of a club with Delta Queens’ history and pedigree in Nigerian women’s football.
The statement from the State Sports Commission further outlined the immediate plans for the club’s future.
“A new management board, technical crew, and a fresh set of players will be constituted shortly,” the statement read, signaling a complete overhaul aimed at revitalizing the team.
