Express FC playing host to UPDF FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, produced a spirited second half performance to force a 2-2 all draw against the travelling soldier boys on Thursday.
Sam Ssenyonjo and Geofrey Gagganga scored a goal a piece to cancel out earlier strikes from Joseph Janjali and inform Samuel Ssekamatte in the four-goal thriller.
UPDF commanded by head coach Paul Kiwanuka wasted no time in asserting their dominance, with Joseph Janjali breaking the deadlock in the 26th minute.
Nine minutes later, forward Ssekamatte doubled the lead, handing the visitors a 2-0 healthy advantage ahead of the break under the lights in the capital.
Express didn’t give up after recess, came out with attacking intent, piling more pressure on the UPDF defensive wall, which eventually worked out in their favor as they salvaged a hard fought point.
Sam Ssenyonjo Kickstarted the dramatic comeback, halving the deficit on the hour mark, substitute Gagganga providing an assist for the first goal.
The game heading into it’s closing stages, Geofrey Gagganga underlined his impact off the bench with an equalizer, heading home from Wandera’s delivery in the 86th minute.
Following the stalemate, The Red Eagles sit 9th in the standings with 33 points, one place above UPDF who have accumulated the same number of points from 25 games in the Startimes Uganda Premier.
