Emenike backs Super Eagles to win 2025 AFCON, Says current squad stronger than 2013 team

Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike believes the current Nigerian squad possesses the quality to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Bold Sports, Emenike expressed optimism about the team’s chances, stating, “I hope they win because we have a lot of great players. I think we currently have better players than when we played in 2013. I believe they can win (the AFCON) but it is also up to them to believe in themselves to go all out at the tournament.”

Emenike, who was a key member of the 2013 AFCON-winning squad, emphasized the importance of a step-by-step approach.

“They have to take it one game at a time. It is not like going to the tournament thinking they can win it all but must take it one game at a time. Playing against Tanzania, Uganda, and Tunisia’s not going to be easy. Sometimes it is easy on paper but it is an entirely different thing on on the pitch. There are no minnows in African football anymore,” he cautioned.

Nigeria, drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania, will kick off their campaign on December 23rd against Tanzania at the Fez Stadium.

The current Super Eagles squad boasts an impressive array of talent, including Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, who have both been crowned African Footballer of the Year in recent years.

The 2023 AFCON saw Nigeria narrowly miss out on the title, losing to hosts Ivory Coast in the final. Emenike’s words of encouragement will undoubtedly inspire the current squad as they strive to achieve glory in Tunisia.
