Emem Essien of Edo Queens has been crowned the Best Player of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) first round, after garnering an impressive 1,740 votes.
The talented player edged out Kafayat Bashiru of Remo Stars Ladies, who secured 1,681 votes, and Bolaji Olamide, also of Remo Stars Ladies, who got 687 votes.

The NWFL took to social media to announce the winner, praising all the players who competed in the first round of the Premiership.
“Emem Essien of Edo Queens has been crowned the Best Player of the #NWFLPremiership25 First Round with a commanding 1,740 votes! A huge shoutout to all the incredible players who competed—your talent continues to light up the league!” the NWFL said as obtained by NAIRA SPORTS.
The full results of the voting were also released, with other notable players like Mary Lucky of Abia Angels, Goodness Osigwe of Edo Queens, and Peace Effiong of Rivers Angels making the list.
The NWFL is the top division of women’s football in Nigeria, and the league has been gaining popularity in recent years.
