Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has expressed her satisfaction following Nigeria’s 3-1 victory over Ghana’s Black Queens in a friendly played behind closed doors on Sunday in Casablanca, Morocco.
The encounter was part of the team’s final preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which kicks off on July 5 in Morocco.
Abiodun, who started the match, was instrumental in midfield as goals from Chiwendu Ihezuo, Asisat Oshoala, and captain Rasheedat Ajibade secured a morale-boosting win for the nine-time African champions.

“It was a good training match especially against a team like Ghana who bring the physicality and I think it’s very good for the team,” Abiodun told NFF TV after the match.
She added that the fixture served as an ideal test of the team’s readiness and determination as they eye a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
“It’s like a step towards our main aim of this competition — keep winning regardless of whether it’s a friendly game or a competitive game. And despite the weather, we were able to get the result.”
The win extends Nigeria’s unbeaten streak to three games, with the Falcons scoring five goals and conceding just once in that span.
Group B Challenge Awaits
The Super Falcons are drawn in Group B of the tournament, alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria. They will begin their campaign on July 6 against Tunisia, face Botswana on July 10, and wrap up the group stage with a clash against Algeria on July 13.
With a blend of youth and experience, including stars like Abiodun, Ajibade, Oshoala, and Ihezuo, the Falcons are regarded as favourites to progress deep into the competition.
Their last WAFCON title came in 2018, and they are eager to reclaim the crown after South Africa’s triumph in 2022.
