Cowrie Rugby Football Club (RFC) emerged victorious at this year’s edition of the Tunde Delu Abeokuta Rugby Cup, held at the Abeokuta Grammar School field.
Four teams participated in the keenly contested tournament, which culminated in a thrilling final.
The journey to the championship saw Cowrie RFC dominate their semi-final clash against Police RFC, securing a resounding 36-0 victory. The second semi-final was a much tighter affair, with Racing RFC narrowly edging out Kings RFC 10-7.

The third-place match saw Kings RFC bounce back strongly, delivering a dominant performance to defeat Police RFC 38-0 and claim the bronze medal.
The final showdown lived up to expectations, providing an exciting contest between Cowrie RFC and Racing RFC.
In a hard-fought battle, Cowrie RFC ultimately prevailed, securing a 26-21 victory to lift the coveted Tunde Delu Abeokuta Rugby Cup.

The tournament was hosted by Honourable Tunde Delu, who serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF).
Speaking after the successful completion of the event, Hon. Delu promised that the competition would be even “bigger and better” in its next edition, highlighting his commitment to the growth and development of rugby in the region.
