Big Payday for Pugilists as Ogun State set to host Yucateco Boxing League finale

The crowning moment is here for boxers of the Yucateco boxing league as the grand-finale of the second season of the widely followed Olympic style showdown takes center stage.

The much anticipated event is slated for Friday June 27th at the recently unveiled Yucateco Arena in Okesopin Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun state. With the conclusion of a record 516 bouts across the 13 weight categories, boxers will now hope to cross the last huddle for an humongous payday.

Pugilists in the colors of Agulo Seite boxing club, and Ogbas Families BC will square up in the men’s category. The women’s class holds several entertaining contest as boxing Amazon’s from Espita boxing club and Miramontes BC will lock-horns for supremacy.

All eyes will be on the 63kg contest between last season MVB and Yucateco Pan-African champion Precious Anine of Espita, and another brave heart Omolayo Adaramola of E-Francis Aiyegbeni boxing club. In the men’s showdown, last Season’s Most Valuable Boxer Abdulwahab Abdulrahman will hope to retain his crown against Riliwan Salawu in their 63.5kg headline contest.

The founder of the first of its kind boxing league in Africa Omonlei Imadu, CEO Yucateco Boxing Promotions explains the aim behind the initiative.

” Our objective is simply to develop Olympic style boxing in Nigeria, and the best way to actualize this is to create a platform where these young boxers can continue to hone their skills and this we were able to achieve with the league”. Imadu said.

Omonlei who also doubles as the President of the Boxing Promoters Association Of Nigeria (BPAN) further outlines his vision for the sports across board.

” The process of developing the sports must be holistic, hence our plans not only covers the boxers, but it also cut across the advancement of the coaches, referees, judges, R&J, as well as the training of our medical personnels, we have created a structure that will transform boxing in Nigeria”. Added the Yucateco boss.

The purse money for the winning club of the Yucateco boxing league season 2 is N50 million. There will also be individual prizes for outstanding boxers across the 13 weight categories. The first position will pocket N2 million, the runner-up will smile home with the sum of N1 million, while the third placed will received a consolation prize of N500,000.
