Former Nigerian goalkeeper Alloy Agu has expressed his support for the recently appointed Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) tasked Chelle with leading the national team to qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
Agu, in an interview with Completesports.com, acknowledged that some might question Chelle’s suitability for the role due to his experience.
However, he trusts the NFF’s decision and believes Chelle has the potential to succeed with the right backing.

“I am delighted that the NFF has appointed a new coach in Eric Chelle to manage the Super Eagles.
“Many may feel that Chelle [lacks experience], but then the NFF must have seen reasons behind his appointment, and I believe he will succeed with the senior national team if given the free hand to operate,” Agu said.
Agu is optimistic about Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, emphasizing the importance of a positive attitude from both players and coaches.
“Impossible is nothing when it comes to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. With the right attitude from the players and coaches, I feel very optimistic that Nigeria will qualify for the World Cup,” Agu stated.
Furthermore, Agu stressed the importance of supporting Chelle and providing him with the necessary resources. “We just need to show him support and provide information where necessary; that will help the team to improve,” he concluded.
Agu’s comments come amidst a wave of reactions to Chelle’s appointment. His endorsement serves as a vote of confidence for the new coach, urging Nigerians to unite behind the team as they strive for World Cup qualification.
