Alionzi headlines the list of winners from Uganda Cranes showdown

Uganda were 1-0 winners over Syli National of Guinea in a 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier where most players fully represented the country to their best.

Our correspondent, Ambrose Ahimbisibwe, breaks down the names that didn’t only perform but also unleashed a bold statement to the selection team and the supporters.

Nafian Alionzi

The former URA Goalkeeper Alionzi repaid Paul Put’s faith to deploy him in the posts and one can say if it wasn’t for Ethiopia based custodian, Uganda were ready to share points with Guinea.

The West Africans in search of an equalizer towards the end, Alionzi made a crucial save in the 87th minute, denying dangerman Balde from a close range.

Elio Capradossi

The Italy-born defender earned his Cranes debut last year in June against Botswana in the same Qualifiers and on Tuesday he gave us another solid display since switching allegiance.

Captaining Uganda for the first time ever in absence of injured Khalid Aucho, Capradossi justified one of the reasons on why he had a late inclusion in the squad for March tests.

Abdu Azizi Kayondo

Arguably player of the match, the left-back from Czech club Slovan Liberec was the consistent figure right from the first whistle blown by the Congolese referee in charge.

A late booking for a foul on Balde, this couldn’t erase performance from the former Vipers Academy graduate who many believe is on way to consolidate his number in that position.
