Edo Queens coach Moses Adukwu has voiced his frustration over his team’s inability to convert scoring opportunities into goals, following their second consecutive match in the NWFL Super Six playoffs without a win. The defending champions are finding themselves in a precarious position after a 1-0 loss to debutants Remo Stars Ladies on Day 1 and a 1-1 draw against Rivers Angels on Day 2.
With five games in the round-robin playoff format, and two already played, Adukwu acknowledged the mounting challenge. “Yes, there are five games in total. Two are already gone, and we still have more to play. So, we will keep playing until the very end,” he stated, maintaining a semblance of resolve despite the setbacks.
Looking ahead, the coach emphasized the need for immediate improvement in front of goal. “We have a match at 9:00 [presumably the next game], and we are going into it with the aim of winning. We’ll return to the drawing board to assess how we can improve our finishing — we need to find our scoring boots and put the ball in the net.”

Adukwu was candid about the team’s struggles in converting chances, particularly against Rivers Angels, where they created numerous opportunities. “Yes, unfortunately that’s true. Sometimes, players get on the pitch and decide to follow their own instincts instead of sticking to the game plan. The coach can only instruct from the sidelines; he cannot play the game himself. That said, it wasn’t a bad performance overall.”
He also offered respect to their recent opponent, Rivers Angels, a traditionally strong side. “Rivers Sengereke is not a pushover. They are a strong team — former defending champions as well. Football can go either way sometimes, but this wasn’t the result we were aiming for.”
Despite being the defending champions, Adukwu downplayed the pressure, choosing to focus on the remaining games. “Pressure? Well, the competition is still ongoing. Things haven’t gone exactly how we’d like, but I believe something positive can still come out of it. So, we keep playing to the end.”
When pressed on the team’s performance compared to their dominant regular season form, Adukwu was critical of the lack of end product. Edo Queens topped Group A of the regular season with an impressive 35 points.
However, their Super Six form has been a stark contrast. “Honestly, I don’t think we showed any quality if we couldn’t put the ball in the net. The most important thing in football is scoring goals. My attackers had plenty of chances, but they couldn’t convert. You can have ball possession and play attractive football, but if you don’t score, it means nothing. We had crucial chances and didn’t take them. It’s unfortunate, but that’s how football is.”
Edo Queens currently have just one point from their opening two matches in the Super Six, placing them in a challenging position to retain their title. Their inability to convert chances has become a significant concern, and Adukwu’s comments highlight the internal struggle between tactical instruction and individual execution. The coming days will be crucial for Edo Queens as they seek to find their scoring touch and mount a comeback in the highly competitive NWFL Super Six.
