Adepoju still backing Shooting Stars for Continental Football despite Bayelsa Loss

Former Shooting Stars midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, remains optimistic about his former club’s chances of securing a spot in a CAF competition at the end of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, despite their recent defeat.

The Oluyole Warriors, who are aiming for a top-three finish to qualify for either the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup, currently occupy fifth position on the league table with 48 points from 33 matches.

Speaking to Flashscore prior to their latest fixture, Adepoju reiterated his belief in the team’s quality to achieve their continental ambitions.

“It’s a very commendable season for the Shooting Stars, although they could have been in the second position,” Adepoju said.

“They have been in the second position for some time during the season until when they lost some points and they dropped to fourth. Even at this, they are still doing very well and they still have the opportunity of qualifying for the continental football at the end of the season.”

However, Shooting Stars suffered a setback in their quest for a top-three finish, losing 3-0 to Bayelsa United in a matchday 33 encounter in Yenagoa. This defeat marked their first loss in their last four league games.

Despite this recent stumble, Adepoju’s earlier comments suggest he still holds faith in the Oluyole Warriors’ ability to bounce back and secure a coveted spot on the continent
