Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has set a new Serie A record, becoming the first player to score over 10 goals in three consecutive seasons since the 2022/23 campaign.
The 27-year-old achieved this feat with a brace against Empoli on Sunday night, helping Atalanta secure a 5-0 victory. Lookman’s goals took his tally to 12 league goals this season, adding to his 13 goals in the 2022-23 season and 11 goals in the previous campaign.
This record-breaking achievement comes just four days after Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini criticized Lookman for the team’s exit from the UEFA Champions League. Despite the criticism, Lookman has responded in impressive fashion, solidifying his position as one of the top scorers in Serie A.
Atalanta currently sits in third position with 54 points from 26 matches, just two points behind Napoli and three points behind league leaders Inter Milan. Lookman’s consistent goal-scoring form has been instrumental in Atalanta’s push for a top-three finish in the league.
