Veteran sports journalist and SWAN NEC Member, Abiodun Ogundipe, has called for the revival of standard television broadcasting in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), citing its importance for visibility, documentation, and sponsorship.
Reacting to a recently resurfaced “television goal” that went viral online, Ogundipe expressed both admiration for the moment and concern about the many brilliant goals that go unseen due to the absence of consistent broadcast coverage in the domestic league.
“Thank you for reminding us of this beautiful goal (television goal in our street parlance). It was made very popular then by the fact that it was captured on TV and went viral on the internet,” Ogundipe noted.

“I’m sure more beautiful goals have been scored in the NPFL, but due to lack of TV broadcast, we could not see or document such goals.”
Ogundipe criticised the current internet streaming arrangements, describing them as “yeye internet broadcast deal with unknown foreign media outfit with no track record”, insisting such setups lack the credibility and professionalism required to elevate the league.

He further called on NPFL organisers to take urgent steps to restore reliable and professional broadcasting partnerships that would not only showcase the league’s talent but also attract sponsorships and fan engagement.
“This, I believe, will give our league more visibility, promotion, and bring sponsorship,” he added.
