NEC FC earned a 2-0 victory against debutants Lugazi FC under the floodlights at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
The goals for the diehards arrived in the final stanza as NEC halted the debutants winning run on Saturday.
Prior to the confrontation, Lugazi had won their last two games (1-0 vs Police, 1-0 vs Wakiso Giants) in the Startimes Uganda Premier.
Gideon Odongo, and substitute Emmanuel Ajo were on target for the hosts, avenging for the 1-0 loss suffered in the reverse fixture.
The opening 45 minutes ended in a barren stalemate, with neither side finding back of the net after firing blanks.
In the 60th minute, defender Gideon Odongo broke the deadlock before Ajo came off the bench to seal the victory towards the end.
Forward Paul Mucureezi was involved in both goals, providing an assist for the scorers on the two occasions.
NEC temporarily go top of the table, level on points (40) with second placed Vipers who have played a game less.
Meanwhile, Lugazi FC remain stationed in the 11th position, on 20 points, 7 above the relegation zone.
