The Nigeria Wrestling Federation has emphasised the importance of rules education and proper training as athletes prepare for national team trials at the inaugural Comptroller-General of Customs Military and Paramilitary Wrestling championship in Abuja
The tournament’s first day was dedicated to clinic and sensitisation sessions, with NWF officials conducting joint training with the Local Organising Committee to ensure wrestlers understand tournament regulations.
“Today’s clinic was drawn from the vision of the wrestling Federation, which expects all the wrestlers to be on the same page. There should be a consciousness and understanding of the rules so that the process of the championship would be smooth,” said LOC chairman Brig-Gen. Olawale Fawole, who also serves as an NWF board member.
NWF Vice President, Chris Amkpila, encouraged participants to use both the ongoing championship and the recently concluded Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa as platforms to break into the national team.
“The Wrestling Federation is eager to see new athletes break into the ranks that will make the country proud at international events such as the Olympics,” Amkpila said.
