10-man Kataka edge Police 3-0 in a dramatic penalty-shootout to reach Uganda Cup Semi-finals

Kataka FC fairytale run in this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup continued to unfold on Tuesday evening, eliminating 2023 runners-up and hosts Police FC at the Quarter-final phase in Kavumba.

The FUFA Big League entity who completed the 120 minutes of play with a man down, defied odds against another top-flight side, winning 3-0 in a dramatic penalty-shootout.

A barren stalemate in regulation time, Kataka picked red card in extra-time, Emmanuel Kulanga received marching orders for a second bookable offence in the 117th minute after a clumsy challenge on Reagen Male.

Kataka successfully converted all their spot kicks through substitute Aka Marcus, Biafulo Muhammad and Sentamu Ali while the cops didn’t register any on target.

Captain Tonny Kiwalazi, Gadafi Kacancu, Ben Ocen attempts from the spot were all denied by the woodwork as Police lost a second consecutive shootout in the local competition dating way back from the 2019 edition.

The semi-finals line-up of the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup is now complete, Kataka FC the only non Uganda Premier League team remaining in the mix joining Vipers SC, reigning champions Kitara FC and joint record winners, KCCA.
